Final Project and Reflection

The final project I have chosen to do for our ECMP 355 class is to take the set of lesson plans I designed in my EMUS 300 and create the intended (multi-voice) choral vocal outcome of the lesson using only my own voice and GarageBand. The final result of this project will be the choral work presented in video format.

The value of this project is three-fold:

1) It provides the students with a aural example of the intended musical outcome. This gives the students a much better understanding of the ultimate goal of the lesson.

2) It takes the lesson to another level, from an organic choral setting of multiple voices to the digital cyberspace world, whereby a single voice can be utilized to create an entire choral work.

3) It demonstrates to the student the value and possibilities that technology holds.

"Experiences No. 2" The Music of John Cage in 4 Lessons

Experiences No. 2: A Tribute to John Cage
(Arranged by Peter Bodnarchuk for 9 Voice Electronic Choir)

An arrangement of one single voice (my own) placed on 9 separate GarageBand tracks. The initial track remains significantly organic in nature while the remaining 8 tracks are hugely modified using electronic effects.
This music and the video component have been constructed as part of a music education lesson plan I created for my grade 9 music students. It is my hope that this encourages my students to explore Cage and his music and better prepares them for the musical tasks asked of them. Peace. :)

The final reflection for this class was created using PowerPoint and then sending those JPEGs to iMovie where I added the accompanying vocal track. I used eleven slides, each showcasing a single image. I attempted to follow the ideas our in-class guest lecturers suggested, namely, not using PowerPoint as notebook but more as inspiring image presentation. I had to use vimeo to share the slideshow, this whole final reflection was an endurance exercise. Just so much reformatting and searching to find solutions to problems I faced. Of course in the end it made me learn even more, so a quiet, yay.
